University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Clinical Ethics Forum provides a range of educational activities for Trust staff, including presentations at Grand Rounds and short seminars or presentations to clinical teams as part of their regular educational meetings. However, the main educational activity of the Forum is the organisation of an annual clinical ethics conference for members of staff working in the Trust.

These conferences have occurred since 2011 with a different theme each year. The format of the conference includes brief talks on ethics and law relevant to the theme of the conference but always includes presentations by members of clinical staff, who talk about their experience of ethical challenges that they face in day-to-day practice. 

A regular feature is the case discussion session, where participants grapple with hypothetical but realistic cases in small groups that are facilitated by a member of the Clinical Ethics Forum.

The conferences have had attendance of between 50 and 80 Trust staff, and feedback is always very positive. They help to raise the profile of the Forum within the Trust, in addition to raising awareness of ethical issues and dilemmas, and approaches to resolving them.  Being involved in organising the conference, facilitating group discussion, and on occasion presenting at the conference, also increases the ethical knowledge and skills of Forum members.
